COEXISTENCE

generative multichannel installation
2022

“What does coexistence mean to you?”

Created in 2022, this sound installation explored coexistence through the voices of more than 25 individuals from different cultures, generations, and genders. Each participant responded in their native language, forming a dialogue across languages and perspectives. Installed along an outdoor passageway, the work unfolded through 16 speakers.

The composition combines voices with field recordings of wind, glitches, and fragments of urban life, creating a shifting dialogue between language and communication, between what we hear, what we choose to listen to, and what we come to understand.

This installation was made with the support of Sporobole

Languages spoken in the installation: Algerian Arabic, English (Canada), English (South Africa), French (France), French (Quebec), German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Kabyle, Lebanese Arabic, Persian (Farsi), Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian
